Many images. One live canvas.

A studio-software rewrite for bringing incoming images into a mosaic that keeps changing.

My role
Application rewrite and development
Context
PurpleGlo / Digital Mosaic Wall
Working with
Unity · C# · image processing · live intake
Explanatory composition of the image-to-grid workflow, not a software screenshot.

I rewrote the studio’s mosaic application and continued developing its image handling, live intake, grid controls and presentation. The work includes managing texture lifetimes as well as the animation people see.

01

Images have a lifetime

Loading a photograph is only the start. The application resizes and caches images, manages temporary textures and releases CPU-side pixel data when it is no longer needed.

02

New images, changing masters

Live image intake feeds tile placement while master-image changes and slideshow controls affect the same grid. I added placement gating so incoming tiles wait while a master swap is in progress.

03

Tools for the operator

Runtime controls, a tile-shuffle presentation and fill/reset actions make the software more useful during setup and operation. The reset path includes timestamped file backups.

The experience, in sequence

  1. 01Intake
  2. 02Resize & cache
  3. 03Place tiles
  4. 04Change the canvas

Role & credits

Application development through PurpleGlo. Colleagues contributed server-sync integration; artwork and the wider installation were supplied or produced by the team.
